Traditionally, North Node in Libra connotes harmony in life and refined intellect. It is good for all affections, including children and spouse. The Dragon’s Tail in Aries indicates someone who acts without thinking and though he may have physical courage is inconsiderate about his actions. Favored careers are hairdresser or barber, lawyer, diplomat, artist, interior designer, or airline crew member. A large number of musical performers also carry this placement, such as Michael Jackson, Shakira, Kanye West, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Tina Turner, Joan Baez, John Mayer, and Chris Martin.
You chose to incarnate with the North Node in Libra nodal position to balance many lifetimes of strong individuality in which you were focused on building yourself up in physical courage, confidence, and action. You are now here to learn self-sacrifice. You will not achieve much of anything on your own in this lifetime. Cooperation should be your mantra.
From past lives you have the tendency to be self-centered, vain, and autonomous in your decision making, regardless of the consequences. You might also be closed-minded by nature or change your mind out of restlessness. Martin Schulman explains of these individuals that the South Node in Aries is always pushing them forward but that once they arrive at their intended destination, they realize they are only half-way there and unable to finish without the help of others. Until you embrace partnership, you will always find impediments to your success.
Before you learn to work with this energy, you may have the frustrating experience (repeatedly!) of seeing those around you have, attain, or receive those things which you desire. In fact, the universe may take what is precious to you and give it to someone else until you learn to share willingly. You have an innate ability to give those around you the energy to make their own dreams come true. This is so you can learn the joy of helping others.
Another challenge for you, as a carrier of the North Node in Libra, is learning to commit whole-heartedly to something. If you are unconscious, you may find yourself involved in something that you now blame for ruining your life, such as an unwanted pregnancy or marriage at an early age. You use this as an excuse to not become totally involved with those around you and frustrated because there are no fast and easy solutions. You must cultivate patience.
The North Node in Libra placement calls for diplomacy. Do not attempt to fight for the things you want. Negotiate. Compromise. Talk. Think things through. Make a strategy and stick it out. Avoid taking sides. Amal Clooney, who shares this placement with you, is a good example of the directed, controlled, and positive use of this energy. Rash behavior is a recipe for losing for you in this lifetime. Be especially careful to follow the spiritual path laid out for you, for an imbalance of this energy is quite likely to manifest as physical illness.
You may find it helpful to think about the lives of these famous people who share the North Node in Libra placement: John McEnroe, Sarah Ferguson, Madonna, Simon Cowell, Magic Johnson, Karen Blixen, and Dick Cheney. They are all strong individuals who, with age, seemed to temper their bold and rash behavior.
Deep down inside you want nothing more than to create and dwell in a harmonious world. This only happens when you put others first. This is the key to your happiness as the North Node in Libra native.

Hello-
Wow– this is amazing and scaringly accurate-
I always wondered WHY I was inclined to be so independent, a loner (and lonely), and stuck in my adult life! I now see that I was not embracing the road to maturity and growth and happiness, which was to be in partnership, and in putting OTHERS first– I also have had years of unconsciousness and I have definitely blamed my past actions for my current unhappiness–
Also– My sister had her North Node in Scorpio- I ALWAYS wanted to be LIKE HER- but she was so ahead in psychologically/emotionally/spiritually — there was no way that I could keep up–Now
it makes sense to me.
Your work is amazing and the most revealing that I have come across on the North Node-THank you so much!!!
I am confused because my north node is in libra in the second house. How am I supposed to get away from being too independent and too dependent at the same time?
That’s a beautiful placement. You have the ability to relate to people without devouring or crowding them, to be in a relationship but not consumed by it, to be with others without losing yourself or robbing the other person of his/her identity. Don’t worry too much about dependency and independency. Think more in terms of space. You’re dancing with your partners and trying to figure out how much each one needs and wants. That’s really all that’s about.
Julie… I definitely see astrology as occult or metaphysical (having to be understood on above physical levels)… yet I don’t see those words as “bad” like most in our cult-ure do.Perhaps this will help you ~ particularly “not apprehended by the mind?” Maybe hidden till we are able to use correctly? The mind is revered in our society… but not the place to understand spiritual truths.
Origins “1530s, “secret, not divulged,” from Middle French occulte and directly from Latin occultus “hidden, concealed, secret,” past participle of occulere “cover over, conceal,” from ob “over” (see ob-) + a verb related to celare “to hide,” from PIE root *kel- (2) “to cover, conceal” (see cell). Meaning “not apprehended by the mind, beyond the range of understanding” is from 1540s. The association with the supernatural sciences (magic, alchemy, astrology, etc.) dates from 1630s.”
Would you consider Astrology as a study of the metaphysical or occult?
Thank you
I think typically the occult refers to things like Kabbalah, Tarot, Gematria, certain types of spell casting or magick, and not astrology, but since it really means “hidden” I think some people use it for any kind of non-mainstream type knowledge, including astrology. However, I would say speaking in the context of astrology, that astrology resonates with 11th house/Aquarius and occult with 8th house/Scorpio. It’s an interesting question, I guess we could study how “hidden” astrological knowledge was/has been in Western culture and make a more educated determination, but I’m pretty confident on the house correlations there. Jung said that astrology constituted all the psychological knowledge of the ancient world, so in that sense it might belong in the 8th house, as well, but I think the way we use it today really is better associated with the 11th.
Good question!!
How do you break away from being so independent- and yet trying to connect with people also– I find it very challenging
I simply don’t understand. My north node is in libra and I’ve always been a giver. I started providing for my family since I was 14 years old up until I joined the military. I stopped year 2012 due to financial difficulties. Now, 2016.. My marriage crumbled, finances shot, debts and all. I work hard but I don’t know what seems to be blocking me. I’m a very generous person. But I don’t get it. I often wonder about my past life. Much appreciated for this article. Blessings
Getting into the military was the WORST possible manifestation of south node in Aries. Try to become part of a group, a group in which you act as a mediator between conflicting sides. Not as a punisher. Someone who is trying to restore balance between people.
My NN is in libra, but in the 1st house, which is really confusing to me, as I’m meant to let go of SN Aries tendencies (of asserting myself and being all about me) but with the NN being in the house of Aries, I’m being told to assert myself and find my identity? Any advice?
That does sound confusing. I’m not trained or anything, but…try looking at the rest of the chart to throw light on how to resolve the contradiction: 6th house vocation service, 7th house relationships. Someone who knows more than I could go deeper.
No. 🙂
The first house DEFINES you, it doesn´t POINT to anything. So this placement would suggest that you are defined by your need (or lack of) to balance yourself out. This is the first thing people notice about you when you shake hands – that you need balance. Start with that, it will come to you, eventually. 🙂
Best of luck!
I have my nord north in libra 8th house, 8 degree symbol what does it mean?
I have NN in Libra. I was always a giver, diplomatic, respectful, put others first and was taken advantage of, used, had one-way relationships and found it almost impossible to speak up for myself (though I had the courage to speak up for others.) All of this resulted in, amongst other things, a 15 year chronic illness that left me fatigued and in pain most of the time. Finally, (when transiting Uranus opposed my natal Mars) I started speaking up for myself and calling people on things instead of holding it in. My health drastically improved over the coming months. I consider my health normal now. I also ended up burning a lot of bridges and lost a lot of “friends”, however, I can never go back to holding it in and making myself sick. I always wondered how it was that I started out being more like NN and then seemingly had to learn the SN for self-preservation. Perhaps there is more to Nodal wisdom than is now known. Now, at this late date, I must re-learn the NN, but with some barely veiled SN so people don’t even try to take advantage 😉
It’s so important to consider our health as a reflection of our psychic well-being. I’m so glad you were able to tap into the South Node to help you feel better.
Do you have planets squaring your nodes? Often times this causes its own set of issues and alters the path to success. In such cases, either node could be lead the way to growth. It becomes more of a balancing act until you figure out which node to follow,
lucky charms
absolutely have had the same things define my life
self sacrificed ,and always in pain
finally starting standing up for myself,,thank you Menopause
and now that I am through it…..MY LIFE IS AWAKENING ,and my pains are all gone
I believe estrogen was like a cage, and empathy ,sympathy were the jailers
So, I a few issue here; I have a True Node in Libra, BUT my North Node is in my 1st house. How do I navigate that?
Additionally my mate has her True Node in Libra, and North Node in her 2nd house.
Couple of side notes to consider:
We both share; Rising in Virgo, Moon in 1st house in Libra, Chiron in 8th house in Taurus, Saturn in 12th house in Leo, True Node in Libra, Mars in Cancer, what does this mean?
So it seems like my north node (in libra) is retrogradeing, so what does that mean as far as everything else goes?
My north node in Libra seems contradictory to its 5th house placement. Can someone help with the interpretation of this?
How does NN relate to the house the sun sign is in. For example my NN is in 4th house Libra and my sunsign is i the 9th house. Would that put a damper on the possiblity of travel and study if I decide to have a family?
What about when north node is in libra in the 5 th house?
Says I should stick to Spiritual path laid out for me, laid out by whom and how do I know if I stay from that path?
I found that confusing, since I have always been into seek the truth from all Spiritual practices.
