Traditionally, North Node in 8th House portends a long life, perhaps of 100 years or more, with a happy and natural ending. It may also bring good luck in inheritances. The Dragon’s Tail in the Second House signifies bad luck in money matters, even bankruptcy. Ventures will be undermined by circumstances beyond the native’s control. Beware a loss brought on by “a woman of loose morals.”
In the past, you were in the habit of getting rather than giving. Possessiveness and a strong desire to own anything you see, coupled with a determination to satiate all your desires, are soul memories from former lifetimes or perhaps childhood. You may be slow to respond to anything that restricts your sexual and animal force and often feel as though the things you really need are always just beyond reach. Resist the temptation to indulge in such thinking, for you are here to learn self-control and discipline. You must somehow deal with the polar opposites within you – stubborn determination and an emotional tendency to go to extremes.
Learn to tame yourself. Resolve to acquire only useful possessions and do not lust after anything more than what you need. Let go of old beliefs about social castes. Bond with those closest to you and take on new value systems informed by what you learn from them. Curb your sexual desires, though they are strong. Reserve some energy for the future and for your own regeneration. For the North Node in 8th House, it’s especially important to not exhaust yourself in the exercise of physical union.
The pattern you must watch out for is a soaring flight followed by a crash and burn. Some famous people with topsy-turvy lives share this house placement with you: Claus von Bulow, George Foreman, Winston Churchill, Lenny Bruce, and Vladimir Lenin. All these men had success, lost it, and then found it again. You can become so consumed with greed, lust, or possessiveness that you come to hate yourself and in a fit of anger and spite, destroy all that is around you, only to gather an incredible amount of energy to start again. Yet the momentum you gather takes you once more to dark places, setting in motion the destructive cycle.
To prevent this negative circle of behavior to which you can be prone, it is important that you burn your bridges. You have struggled through so much, come so far. You can only continue to move forward by blocking the exits. Martin Schulman says of a native with the North Node in 8th House placement, “God will hear his faintest cry for help as soon as he sincerely promises ‘not to look back.’” Psychological transformation is an important theme in your life; own the process consciously. The famous singer Cat Stevens, now known as Yusuf Islam, is a good example of a positive use of this energy.
Because of your difficult past, you may have a hang-up about power and even do foolish things with money to try to get power, such as gamble or spend lavishly. If you do not build a good character, you may dream of marrying into money, solving your problems through an inheritance or lottery win, or even find yourself in trouble with the law. Other weaknesses of the North Node in 8th House placement can include throwing money and energy away on undeserving people or causes and counting on others to do the work that is yours.
What you have that others do not is great determination. While this can be detrimental to your growth, it may also help you in times of great adversity if you use it wisely. George Washington, who outlasted the British army, was born with his North Node in 8th House. So was Eva Peron, who overcame so much to attain her position.
Isabel Hickey suggests that “Helping others to find their resources and values is the clue to the right use of the North Node in 8th house.” You will experience your greatest happiness in life when you strike the proper balance between your needs and the demands of society. You may find the universe supports you in seeking status, as this will allow you to be an individual who contributes to those around him and is respected. You may become a business tycoon or otherwise influential. You will also be lucky in metaphysical, occult, and spiritual pursuits because of this placement.

Im a north node cancer in the 8th house. It’s difficult to accept input from others but ur rgt… Need to remove old belief systems and replace them with new ones… And other people seem to know my real needs better than I know it myself.
My North Node is in Pisces in the 8th. Could you elaborate more on your statement “You will experience your greatest happinesss WHEN YOU FIND THE BALANCE BETWEEN YOUR NEEDS AND THE DEMANDS OF SOCIETY.” You described me perfectly. Thank you. This is the clearest explanation of the 8th house NN I’ve ever read!
I have a north node in Taurus 8th house … I understand the placement of he house Is important but I am not sure how I am meant to use the Taurus north node in this placement as they are opposing signs? I read a lot of articles about this and I am still lost at how this affects me. My whole life I have been dealing with emotional intensities and in my late 20s made concrete decisions to change my relationships (8th house) to eliminate these insensitive to give my soul yearning of peace and stability (Taurus). This is the only thing I can think of but I still feel there is something more to this placement. Is the purpose elimination (8th house) to bring peace to build my dream life (Taurus) …. because I feel I have done this but is this it? What is next ? What is my purpose ?
Hello, My north node is Taurus in the 8th house. I have been through Jan Spiller’s book about north nodes, but could use some tips. She advises that people with this placement put themselves first, and let others serve them in order to break the cycle of being overly attentive to others at the loss of one’s self. But — I have a very demanding boss. How do you serve a demanding boss while honoring north node best practices?
Just found your site, and most of the node information I have read here rings true to me, I am a Gemini 8th house north node. I just turned 71 years old, on Christmas Day, still hard for me to believe! I am blessed to have good health and youthfulness, and have always had a “knowing” that I will live to be 100, if not beyond. However if I don’t find a little more direction at this juncture…I am not sure I will WANT to live that long, at all! Lots of Pluto transits, and Saturn on Sun too right now.
I am not clear on what you mean, in this context, when you say I need to burn my bridges. I kinda fall in the category of someone who has jumped around a lot, and never felt I found the right career for me. Sometimes I just did what I had to for family or economic reasons, and sometimes I impulsively left a job because it was too nervewracking for me for me. (Also I am quite ADHD which I never knew/understood till in my early 60’s.) I know, astrologically and otherwise, that this challenging time for me is going to last a bit, and I get pretty down on myself. I know part of my direction should come from the nodes, hence I find myself here today. I really am without direction right now. 😕
Sister, I feel you. That’s why I’m here right now. You experiences sound like me. I’m 54.7yrs old. Now what? Alone. Looks scary ahead. No resources but what’s within.
Wow, me as well. I’m a 53 yo woman with the same placement as you, Carol. Hoping that someone with knowledge will chime in!
Hello, this post was mandatory. Thank you for making me know Isabel Hickey. Which one of her texts talks specifically of the North Node in the houses?
Spiritual Astrokogy. Fantastic book
Astrology* sorry. Sheesh !
You could certainly see your skills within the article you write.
The world hopes for even more passionate writers such as you who are not afraid to
mention how they believe. At all times follow your heart.
Hi there–I LOVED your article! I think, however, J.K. Rowling’s NN is actually not in the 8th House according to multiple sources. You may want to look into that. 🙂 Thanks again for the awesome website!
I will check it out. I want to start adding documentation for the sources of the birth information; when I do, I’ll start with her.
You’re right. I’ve found three different charts for her with three different house placements. To be honest, I’m not sure without seeing a birth certificate from a hospital we can ever be sure of someone’s houses, but this seems pretty sketchy, so I removed the reference to her. Thanks for the heads up!
Mmm,I have the aries north node in the 8th and Taurus Sun opposite pluto in scorpio.
Now what I am definitely sure about is that I admire aries and scorpios, they really get me and my drive, and can handle me. I love their fearless nature and the courage they have.
Big energy boosters . They fill me with the right energy.
Natal Jupiter, MC & venus conjunct my NN …
I need to get rid of possessions? Used to act really strange and throw the finest things I have away or give it to someone, and then give my money to people who barely had my trust. I quit that completely and use my recourse wiser like making gifts and also share it without regrets. Also true: My scorpio father always told me I must learn to let others do the work for me,can’t tell you how sickening this statement alone makes me feel, but deep down I knew he is right, let the others treat me so I have time for my spirit and spiritual needs. My now partner who is a Taurus too with venus in aries and scorpio saturn pluto and NN is the first partner who said the same words like my father did,I can’t do it alone and I don’t have to. Feels right too cause I finally allowed myself to actually BE in a relationship(juno in aquarius and I can really relate to my juno) not just physically(polygamy was my thing before) never thought or even consider other’s carry emotions even in open relationships. Very primitive struggling mind and naive that was. Well… still gotta learn to let go in many other areas,we all do,but I think with this placement it’s a must to become a whole person. It’s the patterns i try to break free from.
what do you mean by this? “You will also be lucky in metaphysical, occult, and spiritual pursuits because of this placement.”
I have my aries in nn 8th hse.
Spot on!
I appreciate it.
..these ppl are usually not open for self-improvement
